On September 6, during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), under the collaborative initiative of fully integrating into the new future of China-Africa development and jointly building a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future, Tsinghua Unigroup, together with its core subsidiaries, signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing with three major Egyptian entities—the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the Applied Innovation Center (AIC), and Telecom Egypt. The MoU aims to strengthen local innovation in Egypt, enhance the overall capabilities of its digital and intelligent industries, develop an Arabic large language model, cultivate high-caliber professional talent, and build an industrial ecosystem. Through a series of robust measures, the partnership will fully support the accelerated realization of Egypt's "Vision 2030."
At the signing ceremony, Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr S. Talaat, and Unigroup Chairman Li Bin jointly attended and witnessed the signing. The agreement was signed on behalf of the two sides by ITIDA CEO Ahmed El Zaher and Unigroup Co-President Chen Jie.
Under the terms of the agreement, Unigroup will leverage its core industrial subsidiaries to actively promote the design and R&D of localized products and solutions, establish local data centers and implement cloud services, drive the development of high-quality open-source Arabic large language models, and vigorously cultivate a new generation of professional talent—providing strong support for Egypt's digital and intelligent industrial upgrading. In addition, Unigroup plans to collaborate with relevant Egyptian institutions to jointly advance the investment and construction of new projects focused on the R&D and manufacturing of renewable energy technologies.
Both sides spoke highly of this cooperation. Egypt is currently actively advancing a series of strategic initiatives, including "Digital Egypt" and "Vision 2030," embracing new technologies and opportunities with an open attitude to drive national development. As a globally competitive intelligent technology industry group, Unigroup possesses leading technologies, products, services, and extensive experience in project implementation and operational management. The partnership will deeply align the company's innovative strengths with Egypt's endowments and resources, significantly enhancing Egypt's competitiveness in the global digital economy, and jointly charting a bright blueprint for a digital and intelligent future.
